What Can I Do For You?

I help you to make your home look beautiful. I take one room or a whole house and create a whole new look with your thoughts, preferences, and tastes.

Together we can renovate and refurbish your house to become everything you ever dreamed of.

My contacts and experience in careful design, planning, and construction coordination will make any project feel painless and exciting every step of the way.

My First Interest in Interior Design

My story doesn’t end with a diploma in interior design. My knowledge and skills have been accumulated over years of experience and my love for my work.

The story starts with my father, a contractor, finishing carpenter, cabinet maker, and draftsperson. Growing up, all I ever wanted was to be like my dad. He was my idol.

When he came home from work, he smelled like fresh-cut wood and still today, that smell makes memories of him rush back. It frequently happens on construction sites when I am in the middle of a project; I revel in it.

My father taught me to respect the way buildings are constructed.

He showed me how the puzzle was put together and taught me how to make a functional, creative space no matter how big or small it may be.

As a child, I was always creative and detailed. I loved to help find solutions and help people - I’m truly made for my job.

My Experience in Interior Design

My first career was in banking, would you believe, but I consistently returned to home design for myself, friends, and family.

I even returned to school for interior design at Mount Royal University, graduating in 1990.

As a family, we moved to Ontario in 2000, and I finally went into design full time in 2002. I worked for a design firm first, then at a kitchen cabinetry showroom, of which I became the manager.

That gave me the confidence I needed to start my own company in 2005 - Plan By Design, which is my own wonderful business that you see today.

My Background in BC and Alberta

I grew up in a small town called Williams Lake in British Columbia, where we had a small hobby farm.

My two horses were entirely my responsibility - one was a colt named Westwind that I trained, even at such a young age. It’s really on the farm where I learnt about maturity and reliability. It was a wonderful childhood.

In 1980, I moved to Alberta when I went to study at Mount Royal University. While living in Calgary, I went downhill skiing in the winter, hiking in the spring, summer, fall.

My Life in Ontario Now

My husband, Peter, and I live in Ontario now, close to our son and his wife. We are so happy to have them close by. We love to entertain with our friends and family all year round.

I do a little gardening in my spare time, and my preference is flowers - they can just make a home look so beautiful, inside and out. You’ll also find me drawing - I sketch and doodle often. The practice helps when I draw out plans for you and your renovations.

Sometimes, you may even find me playing the guitar, which I aspire to learn better.
